The webinar brought together national leaders, practitioners, and local experts to examine how place-based action—across planning, health, local government, and community development—can create meaningful change for children and families. The speakers explored the drivers of child poverty, shared insights from practice, and highlighted the essential role of planning, play sufficiency, and local systems in improving wellbeing.

Darren Rocks from Public Health Scotland presented on the importance of data and local planning in preventing child poverty, introducing a six-stage approach and a comprehensive dashboard to support local authorities in strategic planning and evaluation.
Presentation: Integrating Land Use Planning and Child Poverty Alleviation
Irene Beautyman from the Improvement Service discussed a newly published document on integrating land use planning with child poverty reduction, highlighting the role of planners, the importance of qualitative and quantitative data, and opportunities for collaboration between planning and child poverty leads.
Presentation: Inclusive Play and Community Engagement in Urban Planning
Etive Currie from Glasgow City Council shared the city’s approach to play sufficiency assessment, co-design with children and young people, and the development of inclusive play strategies, emphasising participatory methods and cross-sector collaboration.
